How much does a new septic system cost in Kelowna?

Who is allowed to install a septic system in BC?
In British Columbia, an onsite wastewater system must be designed by a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner (ROWP), and the design must be filed with the regional health authority — Interior Health here in the Okanagan — before installation. Every design is filed properly with Interior Health, which also keeps your paperwork clean when you sell.
How long do septic systems last?
A well-designed and maintained system typically lasts 25–40 years. Tanks, pumps and controls wear out sooner than the drain field itself. Regular pumping every 3–5 years and keeping solids and chemicals out of the system are the biggest factors in reaching the long end of that range.
How often should I pump my septic tank?

What are the signs my septic system is failing?
Sewage odours indoors or in the yard, slow or gurgling drains, toilets backing up, soggy ground or unusually lush grass over the drain field, and alarms sounding on pump systems. Surfacing effluent is a health issue — keep people and pets away and call a professional right away. More on repairs →
I'm buying a home with a septic system. What inspection do I need?
Get a full pre-purchase inspection: tank opened and pumped for visual access, sludge levels measured, baffles and filters checked, a flow test through the system, and the drain field probed and walked. We provide a written report with photos after the inspection. Book an inspection →
Can I add a suite or extra bedrooms if I'm on septic?
Maybe — it depends on what your system was designed to handle. Systems are sized for expected wastewater flows, so added bedrooms or a secondary suite may require a ROWP reassessment and possibly an upgrade. Talk to us before you finalize renovation plans.
What should never go down the drain with a septic system?
No wipes (even ones labelled "flushable"), grease or cooking oil, paint, solvents, harsh chemicals, medications, or feminine hygiene products. These clog pipes, kill the beneficial bacteria your system depends on, or overload the drain field.
